Hurricane Gustov

Well, as many of you guys know, my brother has now had 2 direct hits from hurricanes while living in Louisiana. The first hit was 3 years ago by Hurricane Katrina, he pretty much lost everything, his apartment was right on Lake Pontchartrain. Thankfully Carol went back with him to recover what they could and then he moved back to Houston for a while. After Andrew and Carol got married and he had to move back to Louisiana, he knew he wanted to move further away from New Orleans because of what he had experienced with Katrina. So, they bought a really nice house...you got it, right outside of Houma, one of the hardest hit areas by Gustov. 4 days before the hurricane hit, I got a call and Andrew had packed his family, before evacuations started, and they were on their way to Houston, this time with 2 kids (6 yrs and 6 months). They have now been in Houston living with relatives since before the hurricane. Sunday we made a mad dash to their home (5.5 hours away) and went to survey the damage. Really they were blessed only loosing their shed, which Andrew was not surprised about, and all their food from the fridge and freezer. Carol and I, along with 2 masks coated with Vick's Vapor Rub to try to absorb some of the smell (Carol described as the "poo that comes from Scooter" their dog), cleaned the inside of the house while Andrew sorted through all of the things that were originally in the shed. All in all, God really did protect them, their home, and the community. Besides a lot of trees and power being down, there appeared to not be too much damage, at least not at the magnitude that was originally expected. Although it was hard on all of us to make the trip there and back to Houston in the same day, I was so glad that I had the ability to do so. We really had a fun trip together and I would do it again in a heart beat.
